High-End audio manufacturer from Denmark Ortofon have released their first ever headphone, the E-Q7 ear-canal headphone, and it is a truly stunning effort. Even the packaging is very well done and of high quality.

Available in three colours, Black, Silver and Red, the E-Q7 has a machined aluminium body, housing a micro audio engine delivering truly staggering levels of bottom end. Ortofon claim a frequency response down to 10Hz, I have no reason to disbelieve that figure.

This bass however does not come at the expense of midrange and top end detail, which it delivers in a very smooth and dynamic way. For me however, it is the ease with which these little miracles are inserted in the ear, no fuss or fiddling, they simply go in with ease and start delivering the best audio I have yet heard in an ear-canal headphone.

Included with the headphones is a very stylish kid leather carry case which just happens to fit an Apple iPod or iPhone perfectly too. No coincidence I am sure. If you have tried ear-canal headphones in the past and not been satisfied with the sound quality, then I think these are the ones to change your mind, simply superb, I am buying the sample pair as I simply can not hand them back!

"The build quality of the e-Q7 is way above all the others, the case and packaging are all fantastic and the sound to me is easier to listen to in my opinion. The other two I tried (Shure SE530 and Westone W3) were both a little difficult to get into my ear, where as the Ortofon went straight in and sounded great the minute they were in. The others I had to fiddle with too much to get them in correctly and to sound any good, which they did, I simply preferred the Ortofon."

Be it Pop, Rock, Classical, Jazz,... everything I threw at them was handled with the same relaxed composure and reproduced excellently. Un-equalized flat out of my Fuze everything just sounded spot-on and wonderful...Ortofon really impress me by taking the single armature design of the X10 a step further with better highs, detail and soundstage and producing a tiny phone that is both visually attractive and exceptionally pleasing to the ears."
